Any data points on if you actually need to wait two years to get bonused with a product change?

Just called to cancel my Aeroplan Visa Infinite and the rep asked if I wanted to downgrade to a no fee card instead.

Asked him if I were to switch back to the Aeroplan Visa later would I still get whatever bonus and he said I'd have to wait two years, otherwise I'd have to do a new app.
