I've played around on the various airlines' cargo shipping sites and Delta's seems to be the most user-friendly. All in, the rates for standard cargo aren't bad for this shipment- about $1.31 per pound for shipments from the Northeast to Hawaii. I'm ready to ship.
However, I'm finding it very difficult to initiate the transaction. Apparently the airlines only work directly with freight forwarders and large volume business shippers, unless you're shipping a dog. When I try to create an account, there are a number of business-specific questions for which I do not have the answer. I spoke with customer service but was left with more questions than answers.
Does anyone know how an individual might initiate this sort of shipment? I've been told to call a "freight forwarder", but so far I'm only seeing freight forwarders who also only cater to business customers. Any help would be much appreciated!

Have you not compared UPS or FEDEX as far as prices ? Guaranteed they will be lower than any major airline's cargo fees.....and, yes, you do need to go through a freight forwarder (since 9/11/01) if you want to use a major airline for shipping anything. Too complicated.
