I just came back from Saigon last week. It has gotten more crowded since the last time I was there almost 4 years ago. I wouldn't buy western items in Vietnam because everything legit is more expensive than what you can get in Canada or the US due to import tax.

My friend owns Bep Me In and it has gotten very good reviews on TripAdvisor. I didn't try it myself, but I did go to his other restaurant, Quan Ut Ut which is western style BBQ and I enjoyed it. One of my favorite Vietnamese cuisine restaurant would be Cuc Gach Quan. The Temple Club also has good food, but it's more upscale Vietnamese.

Nightlife is pretty much still the same...APO, Chill, Xu, etc.
