The new itinerary wouldn't get me home until late the next day so the agent also gave me three vouchers for three meals the next day. I used breakfast voucher at Boise airport the next day. The rebooked flight out of Boise was then delayed, causing me to miss my connection at LAX. I was rebooked by the agent at LAX, but no time then to grab some lunch and make my next flight. Didn't get in to MSP until late afternoon. Being able to use the lunch voucher on the plane would have been helpful. However, as I said at the beginning, no big deal. It just seemed like a no-brainer to me to allow passengers to use the meal voucher on the plane. Having said that, the explanation about probably not having enough meals on board if passengers are allowed to use the vouchers makes a lot of sense.
I'm not guessing at what I wrote

. Meal vouchers are suppose to be issued for delays of 4+ hours or more, upon request, as appropriate for the meal periods. In other words... you probably shouldn't have been offered a lunch voucher. Like I said, that's in theory but not necessarily in practice.
DL really, really hates meal vouchers & has tried to ditch them in the past. A lot of employees are afraid to issue them -- I've had red coats pretend they didn't exist anymore before relenting and printing them.
