I assume you fly about 50,000 miles now. Say you split that among AA and DL. Each 25,000. That just give you "silver status", IF you ALSO spend $3000 with EACH of them. Basically, $6000 right there for a free bag benefit. And note that AA and DL will just sell F away to kettles while relegating "elites" to the middle seat. Forget about upgrades as a lowest elite.
Many MVPG fly far more than 50K due to the partner earning rules requiring 90K to reach 75K.

If I put all my miles into DL this year, I would have easily made DL PLT, as DL/AF are the partners I primarily use and I fly a fair number of discount J and F tickets.

As a DL gold, I get upgrades about 30-40% of the time, including upgrades on award tickets fairly often.

Fortunately, I pile up most of my miles on INTL travel (partners) -- though not having DL will suck, I can probably continue to make it work with AF and BA if I so choose. However, I am still considering doubling down on DL next year and just trying to make PLT again.
