Since I originally wrote I have reviewed the intinerary printed by AF staff @ CDG for the last flight. It shows Y class with 0PC allowance, which is extremely odd.

There was a issue at the gate so had to visit the customer service desk, where they proceeded to demand payment.
I am fearing somebody did something wrong with your rebooking. Maybe related to the new European fare structure with MiNi fares (or whatever they call it now: Light ?) existing for all sub-classes of reservation. Those fares have 0 bag allowance and they come first in the GDS. The agents have to be careful when booking or rebooking. Keep your original itinerary and claim the expense back from AF. It shouldn't be too difficult, but of course annoying.
