You are entitled to:
- a refund to original form of payment because of the change in carrier (the sub of Virgin Atlantic for Delta)
- a refund to original form of payment because of the significant change in time of departure (or arrival)
You may not find the refund and rebooking on DL or another carrier prudent, depending on available fares.
It never hurts to ask and the worst they can do is say no. But if the schedule change is big enough they may give you what you ask for to keep your business. I was able to get HNL-SEA converted to HNL-MSP-SEA when a schedule changed moved my daytime HNL-SEA flight to a redeye and so I said if they put us on a redeye, I wanted to be on a redeye with lie-flats. First agent said no. Called back a little while later and it was pushed through.
So OP my recommendation is:
Ask for LHR-ATL-BOS and just get off in ATL. If they say no, call back again (perhaps when weather delays aren't causing a 2 hour wait for the phone lines).
