In the past this could easily be sorted out by calling Marco Polo and the agent will just transfer you to the seat you requested.

So I decided to give a them a call and see if I could get F seats on my two flights, I was surprised when I told it is no longer possible, and the best they could do is to leave a remark on my booking so that the check in staff could do the seat assignment...after asking why it is suddenly not possible, the agent placed me on hold, but returned saying that even their supervisors couldn't do anything with it.

Is CX gonna save mobey by doing this? I mean they would still have the same number of crew regardless. Food will be J anyway...

It is not always released, really depends on loading. When loading is light in J, they'll block off F, and when loading is relatively high, they'll release it.

I always love to take KA621, if you pay for Y, you get J seat; if you paid for J, you get F seats 50% of the time (the other 50%) they block it.
