The hotel offer wasn't anything special. They are offering this on their website to BOTH elites AND Basic members:
--- Ocean View: eCertificate plus 25 USD required per night
--- Executive Suite: eCertificate plus 100 USD required per night
Since they upgraded PLT to Ocean View, they could have offered the difference (75 USD).
We are fine with the room we booked (1K is plenty big enough us and my wife prefers it over 2 rooms for our 1 and 5) but my concern was with the hotel not letting us stay (max occupancy 3 and we are 4) so I agreed to the 100usd.

Based on your comments you are a seasoned traveler, you should know their response was 100% typical. You could have booked two rooms adjoining right ? Oh, that would mean twice the points !! I have stayed at the CM .. I got upgraded but not to suite, good luck !!
