FYI, MW is infused with high fructose corn syrup, much like many of the AC Costco style deserts, so I do understand why some may like MW. High sugar diets are addictive.

I really don't adore any Asian airline. Detest would be appropriate for some (hello Air China). I appreciate the professionalism of others and respect for the attention to detail that CX and SQ management have.
James Ginns is Director of Service Delivery at Cathay Pacific. Does AC have anyone of this calibre, let alone a dedicated position for service delivery?

I like KLM. The FAs have that Dutch aloofness, yet manage to be attentive, sincere and humble in that unique Dutch way. None of them would show up dishevelled as is the case on some of my AC flights. Nothing visibly upsets them and they can remain calm and polite no matter what. Very different than some of the immature FAs found in North America. Safety and quality are just as good on KLM. Catering is somewhat better on KLM. The wine list and lounge experience compared to AC is far superior.

I would expect that many of the Asian FAs grew up eating a better quality of pork product than I did. When I was out camping in the bush, we would fry our eggs in the bacon grease. We would also eat that disgusting Kam and Klick Maple Leaf canned pork fat product, as it was ideal for camping in the bush. Even though black flies wouldn't go near it, we 10-15 year old kids devoured it. However, the Asian FAs aren't serving me Kam or Klick on my flights, but are instead serving me food that is significantly superior to the low cost crap AC serves. Unless it's Thai Airways, they don't bring me dried out or overcooked glop either. more often than not, my AC evening meal is distressed.

Oh, how I chortle at the excuse that labour costs are so much lower in Hong Kong or in Holland. No, they are not. The cost of living is much higher in these locales and the salaries reflect that. In respect to many services purchased, operating costs in Amsterdam and Hong Kong are higher than they are for Air Canada in Toronto. The KLM and CX personnel are not paid peanuts and have many of the same benefits as do AC personnel. (KLM personnel have some additional perks common in the EU). These are but two examples. I can toss in ANA, JAL, Swiss and even Singapore airlines, although SQ is unique as it does charge a fare commensurate with the premium service it provides

AC often reflects Canada as the GTA sees it and lives it, like one big bland faceless strip mall that is found in Miami, or Toronto, or Abilene. The quality of service now mirrors the USA standard, and the behavior of pax skews to the impolite rudeness common to the east coast of the USA. We like to consider ourselves so much better than 'Mericans. We have our Timmies, and our hockey and our smugness. Newsflash: Canada's Bay street mobsters sold our country out long ago. Tim Horton's is owned by the 3G Capital of Brazil, the same group who bring the disgusting processed products of Burger King to market, and the NHL is controlled by a horrid little man in New York city who answers to wealthy American owners. Air Canada was americanized long ago when it implemented US initiated quality cuts and erosions of service. Oddly enough, the middle eastern and asian carriers adopted the quality standards more in tune with original Canadian values, while the geniuses at AC tossed them aside in favour of the US profit model. To paraphrase Gordon Gekko, "at AC, greed is good".

The reason I prefer other airline carriers over Air Canada is quite simply because they offer a more idealistic "Canadian" experience in terms of customer service, ambience, customer interactions and F&B. AC has positioned itself as a nicer US airline as it chases US customers.
