Jumpseats = cabin & cockpit crew seats, dotted around the exits, galley and in cockpit. Crew may permit staff travellers to use them in cases where no other seats are available. I'm pretty sure the cockpit jumpseats may only be used by a serving staff member personally - rather than relatives, etc. - these days due to tightened security and again only at the captain's consent.

BahrainLad - Congrats on making it out of HKG, even if in a jumpseat. Last time I was there on an ID ticket, there was a deperate looking mob of around 30 staff trying to get any seat out of there, and many failing to do so for days. Some had flown in from SIN and BKK on commercial tickets because the situation was even worse there. Last time in BKK, I met a whole family who'd been standing-by for six days ! Can't imagine how grim that would be.
