When you say booked on the website, do you mean UA's web site? Was it an award or paid booking?

Guess what? All the fuss was for nothing as it all went perfectly fine.
Well, kind of. The ticket was there, my seat was in Business, but the way UA had issued the ticket made it difficult to check me all the way to Norway. The check in agent told me once they see a United ticket they know it means trouble and it happens all the time. They spent around 30 minutes sorting it out and managed to check my bags from Melbourne to Beijing to Vienna to Copenhagen and finally Stavanger. I was all cool about it and knew they would sort it out some how. Anyways...my bags and I made and all was well

The service onboard was really good. Nice meals and very attentive and kind crew. I wanted to take pictures of the meals, but was stopped as it wasn't allowed to have cellphones on. Even though it was on airplane mode! Nope, it had to be shut off. I thought, hmmm....well, I'm not going to make a big deal about it and complied and didn't take any more photos. It was the old A330-200, but the seat/bed was comfy for a good sleep. Smooth landing and on time. ^
Will I book another award with them in the future?......hmmm...let me think about it

Thanks for the update. Some day, I'll take the plunge and fly CA. But I don't think I'll be doing it on a United ticket given the challenges these two airlines seem to have in working together.
