As far as passengers will be concerned, this means as of March 4, 2017 there will be no more smoking cars on Nozomi and Hikari. There may not be dedicated car for smoking passengers, but there will be small smoking rooms (walled off area enough for two or three people to stand) at car no. 3, 7, 10, and 15.

What a reversal! When I first went to Japan in the 1970s, there were very few non-smoking cars on the Shinkansen.
