Well in the air, as it is not trying to "talk" to anything, it works just as a laptop would: on/off until you run out of battery.

Once you're on the ground, it should pick up the local carrier. Bell for instance works with Sprint down in the US.

It is far superior to hauling out the laptop and trying to find somewhere to sit.
