When you first get your Skymiles AMEX, you register your Skymiles number. If you didn't, a Skymiles number is created automatically. This number is printed on your card.
If you put your skymiles number on your ticket, it will authenticate your first name, last name, birth date - then automatically apply the AMEX benefits of baggage / boarding.
This means:
- If your friend with a Skymiles AMEX bought you a ticket, this will not work whether you have the AMEX in your hand or not. Because their Skymiles number won't validate on your itinerary.
- If you are the primary cardholder of a Skymiles AMEX, and don't want to bring the card, you'll be fine as long as you've listed your frequent flyer number on the itinerary. The rest is automatic, and you won't have to show your AMEX at all.
