And you need to enter your name in exactly the correct way....I had problems but succeeded in booking food and a hotel. I think the sequence is SURNAME/MR FIRST . Thanks for the reply. I had figured out the part about the e-ticket-number. Tried the name format you suggested (and then many others!) but no success .

I gave up and I sent a mail to the suggested adress on their web site. I got a one sentence reply and after that nothing.

Called the callcenter in Guangzhou and was informed that booking can only be made either on website, through the app or in person at the transfer desk upon arriving.

Without much hope I downloaded the app and it worked like a charm! So the advice to others who want to make the transit accommodation reservation before the flight is
1. Download the app published by "China Southern Airlines Company Limited", available for iphone.
2. Once downloaded, launch it and tap the "EN" button. app restarts in english version
3. Click "book transit accomodations", enter the e-ticket number without the dash and your name on the form Surname/Name (in my case no MR was needed, YMMV. )
4. If you don't hold elite status with Sky Pearl club, click "Make reservation as non-member" - the only downside to this option is that you need to hold a international ticket in J or F. Sky Pearl elites can book accommodations on econ tickets aswell
5. Chose your hotel. You'll get the option to nominate "a guest" if you are travelling together with someone. If you have a chinese mobile, add that number. If not, make sure you add a valid e-mail address. (I did, but never got an email confirmation. When checking the "Order details" the field for contact method remains blank, so clearly another YMMV )
6. In the "order details" there is an order number, it might come in handy when claiming the hotel voucher.
Upon arrival to CAN, go to CZ transit accommodation service counter located at No.20 gate on the first floor of the Terminal
