ExpertFlyer is constantly referred to here on FT.
Personally, I think it's an indispensable part of the toolbox, along with learning how to use ITA (which remains much more powerful than Google Flights if you can be bothered to put the effort in), MyFlights and Classic CheckMyTrip. I've certainly secured award seats more than once because of alerts from EF.
IME from earlier this year, the pain of looking for and securing First award seats to Australia is perhaps exceeded only by the pain of having to cancel the hard-won booking because the dates no longer work.
