You are correct. I don't have an answer for that.
I just made couple of reservations for my upcoming trips and 9A&B are definately available. I went back and played with choosing the mentioned seats and did not have a problem.
Regardless, the agent is wrong. Row 9 is NOT saved for airport assignment. It has to be some computer glitch. I had that happened before and it did take a call to get the desired seat, but I did not get the BS story that you got. Call again.
