Have something prepared in advance to offer in exchange for the switch if it's really that important. Not that important?, then sit somewhere else.
This thread is about saving empty seats, not trying to take a seat someone else is already occupying.
If the seat you want is empty, but being saved, try this: Just take the seat. Southwest allows this. After all, it is "open seating" and you both have the same right to the seat.
