Assuming you don't take the first middle seat you see, or any middle seat for that matter, there would have to be a large number of through passengers plus everyone in front of you would have to take a window and aisle seat (so hardly anyone traveling as a party of two or more) for you to end up in the back of the plane.

I suppose it also depends on your definition of "back of plane". At B10 on a full plane, you'd have about half the passengers still to board and they can't all sit in the back of the plane.

But it's such a small percentage of the time that you really aren't likely to have a problem with it.
