If the Polaris seat ends up being comfortable and competitive in practice (which, after seeing initial reports from the events, I'm hopefully optimistic), then I think that United will have make the right call on density. The same space on the plane with AA or Cathay style business seats would have fit less, meaning less award/upgrade space. Hopefully this ends up being the happy medium between comfort and quantity.
