Simple solution: Just do online check-in 48hours prior. I'm sure your LHR-HKG flight departs more than 48 hours before your HKG-MEL flight. These seats open up at that time, so no need to wait until the day of departure. AS for your sister, just enrol her in Asiamiles if not already done so. Then relate her # to her PNR. You can do online check-in for yourself and her, choosing 16HK.

Not many people would do online-checkin, especially if you fly Biz. So most likely you will get those pair seats. Good luck.
