I recommend taking Air France to Johannesburg on a wonderful A380, and the preferred seats on the upper deck are more than adequate.

From Johannesburg you can hire a car at the airport and do the 4 hour drive up to Kruger national park, an unforgettable experience for all the family. Then from there fly down to Cape Town.
