So, I managed to persuade the wife that for our Christmas holiday we should fly business class, as id found a good deal..This, of course was welcomed. I also told how if we take just a slightly longer route we could all make BA silver, which was still ok. The final itinerary was welcomed with slightly less enthusiasm.

With all the of the family having BA TP reset dates in November and December, it will effectively mean 2 years of being Silver for the kids, and the wife and I should go on to make gold later in the year.

The fare was the MAD-SKB-CDG business class fare that was available for quite some time this year. We have 2 kids aged 3 and 6 who have travelled all over the world with us, thanks to me being self employed and being able to take ample time off work.

The route I came up with was MAD-LHR-PHL-MCO-MIA-SKB/SKB-MIA/MIA-CLT-CDG, all in business or AA domestic first for a grand total of 3150 GBP for all 4 of us. We have 3 days in SKB and will also stop in Miami for 8 days for a Caribbean cruise.

Furthermore, we live in Varna, Bulgaria, so for positioning we are flying VAR-SOF-MAD on the outward journey and CDG-LHR-SOF-VAR (with 8 days in London to see my family) so it will be a total of 13 flights in 22 days.

Am I completely bonkers dragging my family through this with me? My thinking is that business class is hardly slumming it and hopefully we will enjoy the travelling part too. We start this journey this Saturday so time will tell!

I hope you have a good travel insurance, since with that itinerary, there is something that is BOUND to go wrong, and you will need multiple hotel rooms, rebookings etc.

Not sure how much time buffers you have built in, but with all those flights, you are asking for trouble. Also worth keeping in mind that AA may be able to squeeze a single flyer onto another flight in case of a missed connection... a family of four is a completely different thing!

My final point is that "First/Business" with AA Domestic is just glorified economy, and by no means a flat bed.

My view... You ARE bonkers, and should be sectioned to the TP run section of FT Good luck!
