I agree this policy is not clear/obvious to someone who doesn't know the ins and outs of codeshares. Which is most people who are not on FT.

I've been hit with this as well, flying HA on a DL code share. If you sign up for HawaiianMiles you will get a $10 discount (on average) on each bag charge, but they will only give you that if you they remove your Skymiles number and put in your HawaiianMiles number. But if they do that, and you want to be on an DL upgrade list, that change will remove you from an upgrade list.

After the HA flight you can remove the HawaiianMiles number, and put the Skymiles number back in, but who knows if it will take, and you might be further down on the upgrade list...overall a PITA that's not worth $10. But the option is there for those who want to save money.
