A friend took me to Eataly downtown the other night and I was surprised to find that it's in a mall. Not some cool repurposed old-NY space like Chelsea Market (the old Nabisco factory) or Eataly Flatiron (the old Toy Building), or a distinctive new architectural marvel like the Oculus next door to Eataly downtown, but a bright-white, sterile, Westfield-branded shopping mall that looks like it should be surrounded by a giant suburban parking lot in Florida or something.
I guess I hadn't been to that area in a while?
