I'm always afraid to commend an AC employee who goes out of his or her way because this may say to management they're being too loose with the rules, and thus get in trouble!
A lot of time, management doesn't want good deeds to be known about because they assume others will want to take advantage of the same leeway given someone else.
I find it depends on the circumstances.
"Joe the SFO concierge waived my SDC fee for me after bringing him a Timbit" is very different from "Joe the SFO concierge met my delayed inbound flight from YYZ and rushed me through security to my United connection to FAT. I was not expecting to be run by a concierge, but his efforts allowed me to make my flight and not have to spend the night."
Employees can easily go above and beyond without breaking rules. If an employee has to break a rule to make me happy, I'm going to write in about the stupid rule, not the employee.
