For example, I've already spend 60k on my Reserve this year, so have shifted all my daily spending elsewhere. I have an annual insurance bill that is issued at the beginning of each December but due on January 4. If I was short of a spend threshold (25k for MQD waiver, 30k or 60k for miles boost), I would pay it immediately to help reach it. But since I'm not, I will schedule it to be paid on 1/1/17, which will give me a healthy start towards all those thresholds for 2017.
OK but I thought the OP might confuse Reserve holders. I've never needed the MQD waiver and have always had the Reserve card long before the MQD requirement. Some people are new to traveling A LOT, as we all once were and may have gotten confused.
FYI, I may not hit the 30K spend this year for the 15K MQM bonus but my 10 year old Lab sure is trying to get me there. Also, even at greater than 20K in MQD right now, I still earn less under the "new" RDM earning method than the old one based on distance.
