+1. it's up to the property, if a property is only doing the absolute minimum then there is no luck.
If you want to be 100% sure, you could transfer your reservation to him (call Marriott reservation and they are more than happy to help you with this - I had to do it once for my Mr. Chinese visa because the authority need a reservation under his name). This way you both are guaranteed the benefits.
