One of your places your husband went to was Belmont Park (Mission Beach) on his trip. Honestly a car is really not needed for your short stay, like I wrote if you need to get around use Uber. You can take the Amtrak from LA to San Diego and then walk to the US Grant. It's a nice trip down the coast.
