Rancho Valencia is a nice place, but not convenient to really explore San Diego proper. I like the US Grant, it right downtown, within walking distance of the Gaslamp quarter and the water. The service there is first rate, plus it's a pretty cool hotel, lots of history.
I haven't been there. My husband was just there for a bachelor party and stayed at the Westin but he told me that they didn't do any exploring other than a boardwalk area with an amusement park? He wants to sightsee. I would like to relax a bit and enjoy sitting by the beach. How is the Fairmont? Is it convenient for sightseeing?
