Sure. As most of us know, they do that at BOS, NYP, PHL, and WAS (the implementation details are slightly different at each due to the station layouts), but that's different than the Amtrak police checks
Often1 was talking about (which I've never encountered), and Amtrak staff don't do it at other stations as far as I know.
Thanks for the confirmation by experience that RTE, BOS, and BBY really are interchangeable as far as tickets are concerned for boarding even after purchase.
