Given all the possible things that could go wrong, the extra item you have to pack, the extra weight, etc., why not just get a good 18" gaming laptop and be done with it?

Since the monitor you're referencing is a refurb and I assume these will be phased out in the next year or two, you might want to go ahead and buy two or three of them as insurance against breakage.
