I stayed in a nice resort hotel just north of Cannes a few years ago. Early in the morning, while I was still lying in bed, the mirror that made up one whole wall of the bathroom, came unglued from the wall and shattered on the tiled floor. You cannot imagine the sound it made, or the size of the heap of jagged shards of glass on the floor of the bathroom and out into the room. I had to use the toilet so put on shoes to do so. When I reported it to the front desk they were quite nonchalant about the whole thing and, when eventually a handyman came up to clean up and repair, he told me that the glue had never properly set from when it was installed about five years ago and he was surprised it held up as long as it did! Compensation? None offered.
