Agreed. This is why travel insurance is good to have.

In April I had emergency surgery because of a sudden issue with macular degeneration. Had to cancel a trip with flights involving several airlines and with the tour agency.

Lost a LOT of money! Why? I had no travel insurance.

BUT, my eyesight was saved! Not blind and that was worth much more than I lost by cancelling the trip in terms of $$. 7 days in hospital with daily checks for complications. No complications, but I had to sleep while sitting almost upright for 3 weeks - kind of like flying overnight economy flights for 3 weeks - mind you no seat belt was needed
