Yes. With the BA Amex cards the avios are credited to your BA account every month so each month you use the card will extend your expiry out 36 months. This is not the case for the Gold card: that earns Membership Reward points which sit with Amex until you move them to avios or elsewhere.

Did you consider the BA Premium black amex? There aren't really many good reasons to go for the free card despite the £195 Premium fee if you are planning on spending more than £10,000 on it to get a voucher.
