Quick Stay Report

Had a 3 night stay this week during the Thanksgiving holiday at the Los Cabos Ziva resort (because my http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt...-2016-a-3.html reservation got pushed to Christmas time due to delays, which is a whole other topic)

Arrival in Los Cabos
4 of us arrived Los Cabos in the afternoon. We hired a private transport from "Cabo Airport Shuttle" for $55 for a private transfer (cheaper than Ziva's quote of $75+). The shuttle fits a good 8+ people.

Arrival at Hotel
Lobby was a grand open place with lots of open seating area. Bellmen greeted us quickly and took our luggage. Our friend was a diamond member and was taken to a seated check-in area next to the regular check-in desk. We checked-into two rooms, the diamond room was upgraded to a swim-up room ^ and the other "platinum" room was upgraded to an ocean-view one floor above the swim-ups. Given wrist bands and explained the benefits. We were all given "gold" wristbands even though only 1 room was a diamond room. Supposedly better service and "premium" beverages and reservations at the restaurants. More on that below

Rooms
Swim-Up and Regular Rooms are exactly the same, except one is on the ground floor and walk into the pool and the other one is just a balcony. If you are lucky enough to get an upgrade to a swim-up, you want a swim-up facing the main pool, not the one facing the adult pool . Anyways, beggars can't be choosers. Each room had large bathrooms with large walk-in shower and tub combo and double vanity sinks. There are shutters from the tub that can look out into the room area. We all had two doubles beds and a sofa bed in our rooms. Free minibar replenished everyday.

Pools
There are 5 pools.
Main pool (big one in the middle that you can see in all hotel ad photos NOT HEATED)
Beachfront infinity pool (with the swim up bar HEATED)
Beachside Swim-up suite pools (HEATED)
Adult Pool/Adult Pool Swim-up suite pool (HEATED)
Kids Pools (didn't venture to that side )

Food
I don't want to say we are food snobs but the food is so-so for the price paid, although I've had worst.

French - decent food and service. The mains were better than the appetizers and they were out of the scallops when we were there.

Italian - probably the better choice for dinner when we were there. NY steak, veal ossobuco, and catch of the day with different side pastas cooked to specification.

Spanish Tapas - not the biggest fan with lots of greasy food. Paella is not too bueno.

Japanese - we did the Hibachi and the sushi bar. Hibachi was so-so, more for the show. The sushi bar was surprisingly good. The fresh made rolls were delicious.

La Plaza/El Molino - buffet for breakfast/lunch/dinner. Lots of selection and decent for an all-inclusive

La Hacienda - had lunch here and it was a buffet. Dinner has steak service which we did not partake.

Loco Moco - the pool side bar had tacos and ceviche service which was good for food in between meal service.

Piano Bar - bar and music lounge. not much happening at night.

As you can see, there are 4 restaurants that are only open for dinner and we were there 3 nights but we tried all 4 of them .

Service
Overall service was excellent. All staff friendly. Not sure if it's because we were generous tippers but we even got bar service to the swim-up rooms. Is this the Four Seasons or One&Only, no, but its enough to be happy for 4 days.

Other
- Do visit the "club" lounge for self-pour PREMIUM drinks including a full tequila bar
- Do tell the bartenders your want PREMIUM drinks or else you get the crapper shots mixed into your drinks.
- Do make reservations at the restaurants if you are on the PREMIUM package or diamond member if you are planning to go to dinner between 7 and 8pm.
- Do go between 6am and 8am if you don't have a swim-up and make your presence know on the poolside chairs. All will be gone by 8am.
- Don't get return shuttle service to the airport. The FLAT RATE taxi from the hotel to the airport is $25USD for up to 4 people and plus $7pp over 4. Most taxis are the big Econolines anyways so it can fit a lot more than 4.
- Getting to Cabos is easy and cheap at less than 40pesos pp/way. Take the bus (either the orange or purple) across from the Mega store and you'll get to Puerto Paliaso. Return the same way and as to get off at the Mega store.
- If you are into tipping, bring lots of dollar bills.

Not sure if I covered everything but feel free to PM or post and I'll see what I can answer.
