Wasn't me directly so don't know all the details but my grandmother passed away last year and my mom wanted to log into her account to pay to transfer th points to her account this spring. She was having some sort of trouble so she called in and they made the purchase on my grandmother's account of a ticket for my mother and even did a one time price adjustment as I think she was a few hundred RR points short rather than having her pay to transfer . I would very much assume this is a YMMV situation, but I think the best option is to call.
