I'd agree with this. We love Jasper Park Lodge and are happy to live with its short comings as it is a special place in a magical location. Arriving on a winter's evening along the beautiful long entry road, enjoying clear starry skies, driving past huge elk on the roadside and then seeing all the trees lit up for the festive season (until April!) makes for quite a magical feeling.

The Lakeview suites are good solid rooms, and TOTALLY different to the Fairmont rooms. The signature cabins are well worth the splurge too - they aren't luxurious and they bathrooms are small, but it was pretty special sitting around a roaring fire with a perfect winter scene outside the door. Walking past elk on the way to the main lodge is fun, and the lake for skating is in an idyllic setting. For me the biggest achilles heel of the property is the food, which is distinctly average other than the Sushi place (which is great!).

Its not posh but it is special in my opinion. I can see why people are disappointed in the Fairmont rooms though.
