It just seems its missing a level though, couldn't put my finger on it.
The Michelin guide to Italy was very recently released. It's not proprietary, the results are in the newspapers.

There was a recent headline, "Perché ci sono soltanto 6 pizzerie nella Guida Michelin 2017? (Why are there only 6 pizzerias in the Michelin Guide for 2017?

The interesting thing is, all 6 are in Naples: Sorbillo, Da Michele, 50 Kalò, La Notizia, Concettina ai Tre Santi, Starita a Materdei.

Sorbillo is the best for me, followed by 50 Kalo. For those wanting to make side trips from Rome, Going to Naples for pizza is not a bad idea, but it's not that easy. Waiting outside of a good Naples pizzeria there are enormous crowds waiting to get in. It takes some planning. Da Michele, the one from the Julia Roberts movie, Eat, Pray, Love, is opening branches in London and Rome soon. Sorbillo recently opened one in Milan.

Michelin is a French company. In Italy, there are different guides. One prestigious one is Il Saporario, which just released its ratings for Roman pizza. Since Michelin in no help there, here is there rating of the 10 best places in Rome; Moma Pizzeria Romana, Fermentum, La Pratolina, 72 Ore, Tonda, Magnifica, Emma, La Gatta Mangiona, In Fucina, Forno.

I erred when saying that Emma is more of a Napolitan pizza. That was my impression when I had it. Typical Napolitan pizza, the dough is made very different from Roman, and it has a raised rim of crust. Picture of typical Naples pizza, and typical Roman pizza. Emma, like other places in Rome, makes round pizza that looks Napolitano, but is not, because the crust is different. A picture of Napolitano pizza, and a picture of typical Roman pizza, although there is round Roman pizza as in Emma, but it's a thin crust, without much of a discernible rim.
