Does anyone have experience getting a GC on MPX, sitting on it for a few days or weeks, then using the Share feature to send it as a gift?

I have lots of out of town friends on my Christmas list this year, and being able to send them an e-Gift Card would be great...and getting 10 points/$1 on those e-Gift Cards today to send to them closer to Christmas would be even more great.
