I remember reading something about five years ago about how some airline working group was talking with a laptop manufacturers' working group about inflight power needs. Specifically, was their anything different that would be needed for the next generation of laptops or other portable devices that the emPower outlet didn't address?

Surprisingly, the laptop manufacturers said that the in-flight power requirements for flights up to and including transcons was going away, considering the new battery and power management technologies that were coming out. My machine, which is about 2 years old, lasts nearly 5 hours with a second battery. That's more than enough to run it during the workable portion of a transcon.

So, I think that CO has come to the conclusion that power is only important to most passengers on long-haul international flights, and has outfitted their fleet accordingly.
