If you ring ATT and tell them you are going overseas they will/should unlock it for you if you make it clear that it is a holiday/vacation. If not then it might be easier to buy a smartphone in the UK with a SIM and go from there. Check out Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse, O2, EE, Three (3), also this might help give you some other ideas:
