Well, I had an FHR reservation at a very high-end ritz carlton (tier 5) earlier in the year, and the agent at the desk reminded us to pay with AmEx at checkout. I am not sure if that ritz carlton really enforces this policy for all FHR bookings, since we just paid with AmEx without objection.
I am not sure if Fairmont is more lenient about paying with AmEx card than Ritz Carlton or other FHR hotels, and therefore, I am just paranoid since prepaid Fairmont gift card is non-refundable.
As I said earlier, I've booked FHR rates many times, and I use FPC gift cards for all of my stays there. I used about $30k worth of these e-gift cards on our vacations just last year, and I've never had an agent say I couldn't apply one to my room folio, even when booked on an FHR rate. I just walk up to the front desk, say I'd like to apply some gift cards to my room, give my room number, and that's it.
