Sometimes you get surprised.
I was caught up in the early August mess, and my outbound got rebooked onto AA by my corporate travel agent. That cost about $900 extra.
I still flew the DL return as planned and expected DL would refund the outbound part of the ticket, but DL refunded the entire ticket. Not sure how that happened.
My company made a bit of money on the deal as they got over $500 refunded, they required me to use the $200 voucher towards future travel, and saved about $240 on hotel expenses when I got strAAnded in Dallas and AA paid for the hotel.
Me - well I did get the 15K redeemable miles and a lower meals per diem for one day due to spending the night in Dallas instead of Santa Barbara. And I got to get up at 3:15 a.m. for a crack of dawn flight. But that's another story......
