Just got nailed at JFK check-in for the 1st time ever. I always travel with a back pack and a trolley of approved size and never check-in bags.
I was flying PE and was told that there was no need to weigh my backpack, however the trolley had to be weighed. I'm complained, and questioned, but was told that this is a "new policy" . 10kg for Y and PE, 15kg for J and F. Reminding them that I was DM did not help at all. He told me that that the bins in J are larger! I called BS on that but it seemed to make him even more keen to put me in my place.
If weight was really the issue, then why no need to weigh my backpack? and if it was a space issue, then why are the weighing my bag and not measuring it?
On-board i was told that there were accidents with fallen bags so they are tightening up, but , if that's the case , why no need to weigh my backpack? And, a falling 15kg bag lands just as hard in J as it does in PE.
With a 6 hour layover in HKG and planning to use both bags in the lounge, I had to go the the "indignity" of opening up by bags at check-in and redistributing my luggage between them.
NOT a happy camper...
