Anyhow, my question is... Is this also the case on a 2-cabin flight? Can non-revs get bumped up ahead of GPUs?
Non-revs don't "trump" GPUs ever.

On a two-cabin aircraft, GPUs/miles used by any revenue passenger will have priority over a leisure pass rider.

Where you may see "issues" is on three-cabin aircraft. Say you're on a PMUA 777 and first is booked 4/8 and business is booked 39/40 with two GS members on the waitlist for Y to C. Conceivably, one could get the upgrade and the other could remain in coach while three employees are given first class and the last seat in first goes out empty.

Want first class? Buy it.
