Correct: the companion cert is only valid for AS-marketed and -operated flights.
The free bag perk is tied through your mileage plan # whether it is a CC bene or a status bene.
Incomplete. The free bag perk is tied through your mileage plan number whether it's through a credit card or status; that is, you get the free bag only if the frequent flyer number tied to the credit card is in the reservation. However, AA recognizes AS status for a free bag but not the AS credit card
The AS credit card only gets your bag fee waived if your first flight is operated by AS/QX (ie you check in with AS). The AA credit card only gets your bag fee waived if your first flight is operated by AA/Eagle (ie you check in with AA).
So, as noted, if you have both AA and AS credit cards and if your outbound flight is AS-AA and you have your AS frequent flyer number in the record, you should get the bag fee waived. If the return is AA-AS and you have your AA frequent flyer number in the record at that time, you should get the bag fee waived.
