While you can do YYZ TPE NRT, you cannot do NRT TPE YYZ on the return. BR35 is also now served on an aircraft with WIFI which is a + over Air Canada.

And if you do HND YYZ on AC you WILL BE charged YQ because TPE is the farthest point assuming you flew BR to get to Japan. If you don't believe me, try your own AP redemption. I've had this escalated to a supervisor b/c my understanding is YQ isn't charged on ALL flights to/from Japan. This isn't the case when you add in Taiwan allegedly. I'd take a screenshot but I'm too dumb to figure out how to do that.
No YQ applies only if Japan is a destination or stopover point, not just transit. No idea if that's "legal", but it's the position AP is taking.
