The Contactless AmEx also does work at Chevrons with older Nucleus registers but does not work at Chevrons with the newer Verifone registers.
I've decided the Verifone registers are the problem.
Physical Amex or mobile? I don't know of any Shells around here using Verifone, so I can't test it out, but the one in my neighbourhood has Gilbarco Passport and it hasn't worked there for some time.
